As a child, I learned a simple primary song entitled Do as I'm Doing. Do as I’m doing; I remember our music leader, Sister Sue Birkinbine, doing simple actions that we, as children followed, just as the song invited us to do. Just as Sister Birkinbine set the example for us and invited us to follow her, so our Savior, Jesus Christ, sets the example for us and invites us to follow Him. ...Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am. (See 3 Nephi 27:27) As we follow the Savior, and do those things He asks us to do, we truly do find joy. I know through my own experience that this is true. Sadly, I know from my own experience that the opposite it true as well. When I don't follow the Savior, and I choose to do those things that He has commanded and warned us not to do, I reap the consequences of my actions and I don't feel joy inside, but rather sadness, loss of light, and, often, discouragement. We've all been there.
What a blessed thing it is, however, to know that Jesus paid the price for our mistakes and there by paved the way for our deliverance as we turn away from our sins and turn again to Him "...with full purpose of heart...and serve Him with all diligence of mind," (See Mosiah 7:33) he will, in his own time, deliver us. We have a magnificent opportunity this weekend to hear the word and the voice of the Lord through His chosen servants. May we give heed to His teachings. As we do, we can rest assured that our lives, no matter what happens, can and will be... WONDERFUL!
